Summer is the time of year when the Fallon community shines. And this summer we have a full schedule of summer events that show off the local culture, lively arts scene and beautiful landscapes that makes Fallon a great place to live and visit.

The summer events kick off in May with Spring Wings, a celebration of the beautiful bird migration that stops off in the Lahontan Valley every spring. Octane Fest follows in June, delivering a rousing, spectator-friendly display of horsepower and four-wheeling prowess. Also this summer, the Churchill Arts Council will once again produce two free concerts in the park utilizing the Centennial Stage Amphitheater. On June 16, residents and visitors alike will enjoy Red Baraat, a nine-piece, Brooklyn-based New Orleans funk and Latin jazz dance floor band, sure to get people dancing. A second free concert hosted by the city on August 18, will feature Brave Combo, a Grammy-nominated polka party band.

If a little Western flavor is more of your thing, I hope you make it to one of my favorite events — “The Fastest Gun Alive” Cowboy Fast Draw World Championship. This Oct. 4-7, a group of the world’s most talented quick-draw artists will come to Fallon to remind us of the lightning-fast six-shooter skills that are a part of our Western heritage.

Our summer events showcase Fallon’s diverse culture and identity. And they offer local residents and visitors a chance to gather and enjoy our community and our natural beauty.

So as the weather warms, please take a weekend or three to enjoy some of the fantastic Fallon events on the summer schedule. I hope to see you out there.
