Formed in a refugee camp during Sierra Leone’s civil war, the band’s music is some of the most heralded world music in recent years. A mix of rootsy Afro-pop and reggae, their performances are vibrant testimony to the unifying power of music in troubled times, enthusiastically received around the world from Bonaroo to the Winnipeg Folk Festival. See a screening of the multi-award winning documentary film on the Band’s journey, May 6 at 7 p.m. For more information on the Refugee All Stars’ performance at the Barkley Theatre at Oats Park Art Center, visit www.churchillarts.org or call 775-423-1440.
