One of Fallon’s own has made it to the big leagues – the National Football League, that is. This year, former Fallon High School Greenwave, Harvey Dahl, debuted as the Atlanta Falcons’ starting right guard.

After high school, Harvey played for the University of Nevada, Reno, where he majored in history. Then, in 2005, the Dallas Cowboys, then the San Francisco 49ers signed him but rarely played him. For the 2006 season, the 49ers allocated Harvey to the Rhein Fire, a professional American football team in NFL Europa. Following 2007 training camp, San Francisco again signed Harvey to its practice squad.

The Atlanta Falcons snatched up and signed Harvey to its active roster in October 2007. He’s played routinely in the 2008 NFL season. When not playing pro ball, Harvey’s at home in Fallon.

Each year, locals and visitors both anticipate the opening of Lattin Farms’ old-fashioned, roadside produce stand where they may choose from the great array of fresh produce, gourmet jams, handmade baked goods (from cinnamon rolls to brownies) and dill pickles.

Rick and B. Ann Lattin, the current owners, initially set up the stand in 1989 right on the farm. It’s remained in operation and popular ever since.

The Lattin family has been farming in the Lahontan Valley for five generations. The high-quality fruits and vegetables they grow are: watermelon, cantaloupe, raspberries, summer squash, tomatoes, pumpkins, cucumbers, sweet corn, peppers, garlic, onions, beans, eggplant and more. Since 1977, the family has pioneered raspberry production in Nevada.

Time Capsule 2005

In celebration of the 2005 opening of Millennium Park, which was created with the idea of leaving something for future Fallon generations, the City buried a time capsule there, underneath the bricks near the City Clock Tower landmark.

The sealed container, slated to be opened in 2055, contains copies of the local newspapers in circulation in 2005 (the Lahontan Valley News and the Fallon Star Press); notes to future Fallon residents; mementos from elementary school students and the local KVLV-AM country music station; a copy of the Millennium Park dedication ceremony program; and lots of photographs.

The included images depict the 2005 Millennium Commission members, local officials, the Millennium Park celebration and Fallon’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony.
