Office of the Mayor
2009 goals
Fallon will once again be host to some prestigious conventions including the Nevada Commission on Tourism’s Rural Roundup marketing conference, the Lions’ Club and Knights of Columbus state conventions, and the Nevada Association of Conservation Districts. It is the goal of the Fallon tourism office to host more meeting groups in 2009.
Special events will also play a large role in Fallon’s tourism development. The tourism office will guide the 12th Annual Spring Wings Bird Festival through its Mother’s Day weekend while a new director comes on board for 2010. The Octane Fest Motor Sports Festival will rev up the community in June in its second year, and the tourism office will coordinate another “Friday Night Fights” professional fight card during Labor Day in conjunction with the Hearts of Gold Cantaloupe Festival. The Nevada Quilt Guild will host a quilt show and outdoor festival in 2009 in preparation for a statewide show in 2010 that could draw hundreds of quilts and thousands of visitors.
A plan to create a photo symposium/workshop that would bring amateur photographers and teachers to Fallon to photograph faces and places of the west is in place. This project would serve the tourism, arts, and educational communities.
And while Fallon has not hosted an air show in nine years, the Blue Angels will perform in Fallon on September 11. This will provide an opportunity to showcase Naval Air Station Fallon which provides training critical to our national defense and Fallon’s hometown hospitality to thousands of visitors who are expected to make their way to the free show.
Finally, Fallon is working closely with the Nevada Commission on Tourism and the Pony Express Territory to host important familiarization tours for travel writers and National Tour Association members convening in Reno in November, create magnetic websites, outstanding brochure collateral, and a host of other grant projects that bring visitors to Nevada, Fallon and the territory.
