City Engineer/Public Works Director Functions
- Review proposed land use and development
- Approve subdivision plats or maps
- Approve and issue building permits
- Maintain all construction plans
- Perform building inspections
- Enforce the City's building code
- Operate and maintain the City's utilities and other public works—water, water treatment, landfill, sewer, electricity
- Build and maintain the City's roads and sidewalks
- Maintain the City's 17 properties—parks, historical sites, swimming pool, Centennial stage
- Provide sanitation and waste management services
- Plan and develop capital improvement plans for the City's public works
- Make estimates and furnish specifications for any infrastructure work
- Construct capital improvements
- Supervise all contracts and other work to ensure proper performance
- Re-survey City public works when requested
- Keep copies of field notes, maps or profiles relating to public works surveys
- Supply 24-hour, on-call coverage for problems or emergencies
- Provide safety and continuity of utility and infrastructure services during emergencies
- Oversee Fallon Municipal Airport management and operation
- Maintain a file for every address within the City
- Return all citizen calls and address all complaints or needs
- Prepare and deliver a detailed report to the City Council semiannually
- Attend the Mayor's weekly Cabinet meetings
- Instruct employees to deal courteously with the public and ensure they do
- Educate employees about accident prevention
- Provide the safest working conditions possible for employees
- Maintain safety regulations
- Update the City Clerk about all permanent personnel changes
- Notify the Mayor of any proposed changes in employee job duties or responsibilities
