Emergency Management Functions
- Continually update and modify the City's emergency management plans
- Execute the Mayor and City Council's directions regarding emergency management plans
- Prepare and recommend ordinances needed for the emergency management plan
- Obtain supplies and equipment vital to protection of life and property
- Design and execute emergency management training exercises
- Consider and recommend mutual-aid plans and agreements
- Monitor and propose changes to the Federal Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) for the City
- Coordinate and oversee all City and volunteer efforts during emergencies
- Activate the shelter plan during emergencies or prolonged power outages
- Support the Emergency Operations Center during emergencies
- Request assistance as necessary from outside the City during emergencies
- Serve as the liaison between local and higher authorities and agencies during emergencies
- Manage equipment and training grants
- Represent the Mayor on all emergency management matters
- Prepare a quarterly work plan report for Nevada's Division of Emergency Management
- Regularly attend state emergency management conferences
- Stay current on the latest emergency management information and techniques
- Participate in statewide emergency response training exercises
- Attend the Mayor's weekly Cabinet meetings
- Continually educate the public about emergency preparedness
- Prepare, distribute and publish informational articles and materials regarding emergencies
