City Attorney Functions
- Provide legal advice and opinions to city representatives when needed
- Initiate legal action as directed by the city council
- Prepare or review all contracts and legal documents involving the city
- Draft city ordinances, resolutions, orders and other documents
- Represent and defend the city in litigation
- Prepare public revisions to the municipal code
- Enforce the civil side of the municipal code
- Prosecute, in municipal court, all actions on behalf of the city
- Review federal grants
- Respond to citizens' inquiries
- Attend all general and special city council meetings
- Attend the Mayor's weekly Cabinet meetings and other meetings at the Mayor's direction
- Sustain an expertise on utilities, natural resources and related law
- Maintain the law library
