Councilman Willis A. Swan Jr.
When considering Willis' community involvement, it's no surprise that the Nevada League of Cities and Municipalities recognized him as "Public Official of the Year" in 1998.
He was elected initially to the Fallon City Council in 1993; in June 2009 he will have served four consecutive, four-year terms. He also is the director of the Boys & Girls Club of Fallon and an appointed board member for the Nevada Rural Housing Authority.
A job at Kennametal, Inc. initially brought Willis to Fallon, in 1971. Work there culminated his 38-year career in the mining industry. Previously, however, he held positions at Consolidated Mines, Utah Construction & Mining Co., and ASARCO LLC. This was after he obtained a college degree in mining engineering, in 1959, from the University of Nevada's Mackay School of Mines.
In his limited spare time, Willis and his wife enjoy traveling the world. The couple has a daughter who lives in California.
